Outdoor Education opportunities on the Great Ocean Road

Ballarat Clarendon College is currently accepting applications for various roles within the Outdoor Education team based at our Yuulong Campus on the Great Ocean Road.

These roles include:

  • Residential Assistants
  • Teachers

Our Yuulong team play a vital role in delivering a bespoke outdoor education to our Year 9 students, who spend 8 weeks living and learning on campus away from the structures, routines and influences to which they have become accustomed.

Ballarat Clarendon College Yuulong Campus - different by design

Our Yuulong Campus is different by design. Situated on a hilltop overlooking the Southern Ocean on the Great Ocean Road, Yuulong presents a unique opportunity for Residential Assistants and Teachers to work with students as they develop their identity and their ability to manage themselves at both a practical and emotional level.

At Yuulong, life and learning focuses on identity, self-management and relationships. Development happens through every interaction and the most challenging experiences are where the greatest progress can occur.

Our students participate in a wide variety of activities centred on building and maintaining sustainable communities, fostering connections and the development of lifelong health habits. Staff participate alongside our students as they learn to cook, hike, camp, surf and snorkel.

Our Yuulong Residential Assistants and Teachers are provided generous working conditions, ongoing professional development, a comprehensive employee assistant program and accommodation on or nearby campus.

Selection criteria

Formal qualifications in Outdoor Education/Recreation or relevant experience including hazard identification, risk assessment and implementation of risk treatment controls.

Experience and knowledge of pastoral care and child safety standards.

Capacity to work in a high-performing team, including a willingness to seek and respond to feedback and ability to communicate effectively to maintain respectful relationships with students, staff, parents and groups from the wider community.

Teachers require VIT registration.

High Desirable

Willingness to learn, be resilient and agile.

Confidence and genuine interest in extending and enriching student relationships and learning

Formal qualifications or willingness to obtain:

  • Wilderness First Aid
  • Light/Medium bus driving licence
  • community surf lifesaving certificate or Bronze Medallion
  • Surf Coach or Snorkel guide qualification.
